Crazy but True
In 1967 Sweden switched which side of the road everyone drove on, overnight. At 5am on September 3rd, every vehicle in the country stopped, moved to the right side and carried on. The day was called Dagen H, and remarkably, accident rates actually dropped at first because everyone was driving so nervously.
