Georgia has been making wine for about 8,000 years, the oldest known winemaking anywhere. The traditional method buries enormous clay vessels called qvevri underground to ferment the grapes, and families still do it the same way. Archaeologists found grape residue in Georgian pottery dating back to 6000 BC.
