Crazy but True
In 1986 a lake in Cameroon suffocated an entire region. Lake Nyos released an enormous cloud of carbon dioxide that had built up in its depths, and the invisible gas rolled downhill and killed more than 1,700 people and thousands of livestock in a single night. Engineers have since installed pipes to vent the lake safely.
