Crazy but True
Benin is the birthplace of Vodun, the religion that traveled with enslaved people across the Atlantic and became known abroad as voodoo. It remains an official religion in Benin with a national holiday each January. The country also has Ganvié, a village of stilt houses built on a lake because slave raiders were forbidden from entering water.
