Crazy but True
Lake Chad has shrunk by around 90 percent since the 1960s. Once one of the largest lakes in Africa and big enough to border four countries, it has retreated dramatically due to drought and irrigation. Chad also holds the Ennedi Massif, where stone arches and rock paintings record a time when the Sahara was green.
